The Spark

CLUB VIRAGO WA (Inc) NEWSLETTER June 2004 EDITION

From the President’s Desk

Hi everyone.

Pee Cee and Pooh Bear we publicly praise you for the ‘Princely’ provision of plentiful piping-hot pizza proportioned enough to proudly produce the most preposterous ‘pyramid of pizza’ ever presented to this pack of prolific pizza partakers which pinnacled promiscuously with the provocative presentation of the ‘private passions’ (chocolate desert pizzas) pampering all participants who publicly professed the pizza particularly palatable and passionately praise the planners and preparers for your ‘Pizza Pow-wow’. Thanks Fee Cee (Ride-Leader) and Hun (TEO) who planned the ride (see the ride report).

Hope you have all safely survived the arrival of the wetter, colder weather. It is good to hear that Eagle Eye is continuing to recover after a (non-life threatening) altercation with a car which unexpectedly stopped halfway round a corner in front of him. Mike, we wish you a complete and speedy recovery and hope that news on your bike is positive as well. It will be great to see Stumpy able to ride with the group again after the repair of his bike and we wish the best to any other members who for personal or bike reasons are finding it difficult to get to the club meetings and/or rides. A special thanks to Hammer for finishing off the Spark and our thoughts are with Doug who has had to make an unexpected trip back to England.

Hopefully everybody’s nomination forms have arrived in time for names to be written within this issue, If positions have been left vacant, I urge you to consider you possibility to contribute to your club in a very positive and rewarding role as a committee member. Forward your nomination to the club or bring it to the floor at the AGM. A postal vote form has also been included for those full, financial members unable to attend the AGM. Please don’t forget to renew your membership prior to the AGM (next month) to enable you to vote on the new committee and new club name if the Special Meeting goes ahead after discussions (see insert for absent members). At the AGM we are also hoping to auction the large, advertising wall picture donated by Five Star (some competition is already evident).

As always, remember you are the most important person in this club. For the ride of your life stay on top’. Puss ‘n boots

From the Web Master

Just in case you didn’t know, our Club Virago does have a website.

www.clubvirago.org.au

Why you may ask?

Well, my aim is two fold. Firstly to provide a place to keep the club members informed of the latest going ons and ride reports and secondly to promote the club to the big wide world (after all aren’t we the best?).

I have recently made a number of changes to the website so if you haven’t been there for a while go and have a look. For those that want to know the type of info you can find there here is a quick summary:

  • About us – a quick description to the world who we are and what we do and how to join for prospective members.

  • Committee – Mug shots of the committee to help you recognise them without their helmets.

  • Calender – Keep up to date with what is planned. I try to keep this up to date including changes that occur between meetings. So check it out to see what’s happening and when. Note that there are links to the ride reports and photos from here. This way you can see what we did and then go and have look at the ride reports and relevant photos.

  • Photos – A collection of photos from the rides etc. By the way, if you have any photos that you think are worth showing on the website send them to me at the club email address or even give me a photo and I will scan it in. This page is divided into other sections as well via links (for example, Members and their bikes – in severe need of some photos and archive photos to make viewing easier)

  • Links – This page has links to other web sites of interest. Again if you think you know of a good site that others might be interested in let me know.

  • Contact us – This is where you and everyone else can send us an email. It is interesting to see the type of emails we get. Currently we get about between one and four emails a month. Some of these from prospective members.

  • Newsletter – You can read the news letters that Candyman is producing on line at any time. I do not include all of the stuff that is in the news letter just the meat. Sometimes the printed form is better. (Well done Doug).

  • Ride rules – Having problems remembering what we are supposed to do to keep every one happy and safe. There is a copy of the ride rules here.

Remember folks the web page is there for you as much as the rest of the world. So if there is anything that you would like to see added or changed let me know. After all it’s no good having the site if no one uses it.

Ride Report 30/05/2004

(A round-a-bout way to Mandurah)

Question:

What travels the countryside chasing a Virgin while being followed by a Virgin..?’??

Answer:

Viragonians that went on the PeeCee & Pooh Bear Mystery Ride’!!

Yep it was my first time as Ride Leader and Huns first time as Tailend Harry Charlie,

It all started with a fine but very cool morning, I think it was 25 hikes that showed up to enjoy what promised to be a fine day. After checking out Less UPS (ya techo!), and minor repairs to the only non-Yamaha bike on the ride (Dave’s Vulcan). we hit the road heading for the freeway, Exiting the freeway at Armadale Rd we headed east, then south, then east, south, east, south and finally west ending up on the other side of the freeway)! sort of like a Taxi driver’s way of getting places..

Johnson Rd got us going in [he right direction again.., oh and then we came across our first ‘round-a-bout’, followed by another 4 on that road, down Baldivis Rd past the end of the freeway (another round-a-bout) to Karnup Rd. It was a series of nice winding country roads from there through Pinjarra where John warmed people up by having them push his bike to get it started again, onto Ravenswood Sanctuary and (another round-a-bout) Redcliff Barn for morning tea. Mike and his staff did a great job feeding us and the sun was out for awhile so that we could defrost. A Ulysses club was due at the Barn at 12:30 and guess what? We cleaned them out of scones and cakes.!! Sorry guys (he he).

The weather started to turn cloudy when we were leaving (another round-a-bout), we stopped for fuel at North Yunderup, headed south of Mandurah and then followed the coast hack to the foreshore (another 2 round-a-bouts). From there it was straight to Pee & Pooh’s for lunch (3 more round—a—bouts), So let’s see that was..

10 T-Junctions
IC left corners
10 right corners
13 Round-a-Bouts

That’s 43 corners that needed marking, we should he getting good at this!!!

Arriving at Pee & Pooh’s we were greeted by 3 more hikes, She, VeeBee and Budda. Puppee, Deadly, visitor Dave’s partner Deb, and Pooh Bear were also at the house.

Time for Food (lotsapizza) drinks music and a great after noon of socialising.

An Extra special thanks to Pooh Bear and our good friend Deb who put in a huge effort to make the afternoon a great experience, also to everyone that helped out at the house, and Hun for helping me organise the ride.

PS. Hope you all got home dry..

Pee Cee

SERGEANTS MESS

The day started quietly with no one wanting to be fined, so I started it off with one.

Then people followed slowly. A couple of indicator fines, push starts, blocked driveways and rear-ender (not as good as Fenders). There was a rumor of riders rolling through stop signs (done behind my back), looks like I'm riding at the back in future to catch the culprits.

Brutus indicator $1.00
Squire indicator $1.00
Squire over taking on the left $1.00
Maddog indicator $1.00
Alan needing push starts $2.00

Les helping Woody $1.00
Dezzal Calling me POM $1.00

All in all a quiet Sunday ride for the club Brutus

New Member -Shez Beard (Rebel)

Rebel has been a member since Nov. last year. She lives in Waikiki and used to work as a nurse until a car accident on Christmas Eve some years ago. As a result she can no longer work but thankfully she is able to ride her hike in the shorter rides.

She is a level 1 trainer with a ladies football league. She tapes up any injuries & rubs down the girls (no , she doesn’t need an assistant!)

She rides a Dragstar 650 (pictured) & loves it. She started out on a Honda 250 then a Virago 250 & now the Dragstar. She loves the camaraderie in the Club but would like to see more social events The idea of going to PC & Poo Bear’s to enjoy a pizza together she thought was great. Welcome to Club Virago

New Member Steve Hildred (Stumpy)

Steve is a new resident of WA but has been here many times. When he heard that his company was transferring him here from NSW, he was really pleased. He works for a lighting wholesaler as State Manager.

He owns a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 & wouldn’t ride anything else (we’ll have to work on that won’t we?) Like Shez, he enjoys the camaraderie & Club rides. Like others he noticed that there is sometimes a problem on rides when a number of sub-groups start to form. He hopes a mutually agreeable solution to this problem can he found
